Brian is a young man trying to make it as a writer, but is struggling with his own creativity and inspiration. He looks at the world with some measure of envy, often feeling like a spectator looking at life from the outside in. His self confidence is low at this point of his life, and that's getting in the way of his writing.
Sam (antagonist)

Confidence personified, Sam is a well educated copywriter who takes a role antithetic to Brian. He believes that his education elevates him above his peers, and takes pride in sharing his knowledge with others.
Archie
Age 25-35
Archie has an inquisitive mind, and likes to understand things deeply before expressing himself one way or the other. He always has a question ready, and doesn't easily accept something as given.
Gerard
Age 40+
Older gentleman, professional writer. Jaded, has been around the block too many times, and had to fight a lot to get where he wanted. He is convinced people need to work hard to obtain success, and those who don't, dont't really deserve to be where they are.
Marie
Age 25-35
Marie is a kind woman of friendly disposition. Very supportive but also in the habit of asking direct questions that might make people uncomfortable, while trying to be helpful and constructive.
Chris
Age 25-30
Chris likes to live life without taking things too seriously. He often jokes and makes light of situations, without any malice behind his words. Just like Sam, he enjoys occasionally showing off his education and think of himself as an intellectual.
Claire
Age 25-35
Claire is trying to establish herself in this group of friends, by showing others how well she fits in. This inadvertedly leads her to overcompensate and come off as aggressive, while at the same time trying to follow whatever trend and opinion the group seems to have adopted.
